How do Disney princesses resound with feminism?
I know that Disney has constantly been criticized for creating its princesses to seem like "all they need is a man" but I wonder what you all thought about this. Do you think any of them could be related to being a feminist? Like Belle from Beauty & the Beast, I always liked her--she was very smart & did not change for anyone or Princess Jasmine from Aladdin?

OMG I totally forgot about Esmeralda, the gypsy from The Hunchback of Notre Dame...I think she was totally a feminist.
Belle was definitely a feminist. She didn't go for Gaston just because he was burly and strong and handsome; she read, had a mind of her own, and fell in love of her own accord. She saw past the beast's exterior and loved him for his mind.
Jasmine is similar. She had no thoughts of marrying any suitor her father picked for her; instead of dreaming of a prince, she dreamed of a life of freedom.
Mulan definitely. Romance did not even enter her mind until the very end of the movie; she defied all gender stereotypes in a Twelfth-Night-like move. She cared more about upholding her family's honor than dressing up like a geisha to meet a man.
Ariel is borderline feminist; she still has an independent streak, but her main goal is to be with Eric. Meg and Pocahontas were also pretty spunky.
Cinderella, Snow White, and Aurora all seem to have no thoughts in their head but thoughts of love. Of course, they all want to get away from their abusive (in some cases) childhood home, but their plans all involve meeting a Prince.
